Proclaiming the Decalogue Faith to the world since 1944

Our Story

Where It All Began

United Israel World Union is a 501(c)3 educational research organization founded in 1944 by David Horowitz (1903-2002), as an international movement to disseminate the Decalogue Faith both within and beyond the confines of Jewry. Its primary focus is to function as an association of any, and all who are drawn to the One God of Abraham and the Holy Scriptures (the Tanakh or Hebrew Bible).

WHAT WE AFFIRM

We affirm the truths of the Hebrew Scriptures, and are committed to the vision of the Hebrew Prophets and the ideals of the Kingdom of God; namely that justice, righteousness, and the knowledge of God might fill the earth as the waters cover the seas. We seek to promote biblical values involving responsible stewardship of the creation and peace among humankind through the printed and spoken word and by example. As part of this mission UIWU seeks to establish places of study, devotion, and spiritual guidance and to appoint the necessary leaders and teachers for the various centers of UIWU worldwide.

UIWU further proposes on the basis of the Biblical injunctions: “My House shall be called a House of Prayer for all peoples,” and “Whosoever shall call upon the Name of YHVH shall be delivered,” to be as universal in creed and outlook as is the Bible itself; wherefore UIWU will function as a non-political, non-sectarian, non-profit, educational organization. Accordingly any person who recognizes and accepts the Hebrew Bible as the basis for his or her daily conduct of life, and supports these goals, may become a member of United Israel World Union.

A central theme of the Hebrew Prophets is the union of Judah, the Jewish people, with their brothers and sisters of the “Ten Lost Tribes” of Israel. Accordingly, UIWU strives to put forth a call to all those around the world who might be part of the Lost Tribes, providing them with historical research related to their forgotten heritage; to awaken them to a consciousness of their true identity; and to encourage them to unite with Judah in following the ancient Hebrew faith as revealed in the Torah and the Prophets.

About United Israel’s Iconic Symbol

United Israel World Union was founded by David Horowitz and incorporated in New York on April 17, 1944.

Fifteen years later, on April 26, 1959, the organization adopted its official emblem.
The new insignia holds special significance because of its unique design and the little-known story behind it.

Five years earlier, noted artist and sculptor, Dr. Rene Shapshak and his wife Eugenie, moved from Johannesburg, South Africa into the famous Chelsea Hotel on 7th Avenue located in downtown Manhattan. Born and educated in Paris, Shapshak was an alumnus of the prestigious Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris that produced such giants as Claude Monet and Pierre Renoir.

Dr. Shapshak had become a world-renowned artist and sculptor, bringing his artistic and cultural contributions to many countries. His art is represented in Buckingham Palace, in the Rothschilde, Schiff and Schonegevel Collections in England and Athens, Greece and in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. He did sculptures of Mahatma Ghandi and John Cecil Rhodes of Great Britain. His Rhodes sculpture is in the Rhodes Museum at Bishops Stotford, England. Among his sculptures in New York City are those of Cardinal Francis Spellman, Dr. Leo B. Mayer and Playwright Arthur Miller.

In 1956, Dr. Shapshak had the privilege of sculpting a bronze bust of former President Harry S. Truman. The sculpture was placed in the Hall of Fame at the Ben Yehuda National Museum in Jerusalem, Israel. It was unveiled in Israel on Truman’s 73rd birthday.

Dr. Rene Shapshak was a close friend of David Horowitz and an active member of the United Israel organization. It was Dr. Shapshak who personally designed the new United Israel insignia. Brilliantly conceived, the Seal itself represents a dynamic activating Wheel with a spinning Star of David in which the Earth revolves. The Levitical escutcheon with the Ten Commandments represents the Tribe of Levi and its purpose. HaShem is honored as the true Savior as indicated in the ancient Hebrew script HaShem Hu Go’alenu. On the periphery of the spinning wheel are the remaining symbols of the twelve tribes of Israel.

The special seal crafted by internationally renowned Dr. Rene Shapshak remains today our official logo appearing on all organizational documents and stationary.

What is the Hebrew Faith?

“I am a Hebrew and I fear the Almighty, who made heaven and earth”

People often ask who we are, what we are, or how we define ourselves in terms of our religious faith? The answer is as simple as it is profound. We hold to the Hebrew faith as reflected in the Hebrew Bible, or what is often called the Old Testament.

So what is the Hebrew faith? And perhaps just as important, what is it not?

It is not Judaism although it affirms the vital and ongoing role of the chosen people of Israel in the unfolding plan of the Creator God, including their prophetic return to the Land of Israel in the latter days. Israel’s central mission is to provide a light and an example to the rest of the world, as a witness to the One God, His ethical Way of life, and to God’s prophetic Plan for the entire world.

But the Hebrew faith is broader than Judaism per se.

It is universal in its scope, reflecting the visionary perspectives of the Hebrew Bible: “Turn to Me, all the ends of the earth;” “My House shall be a house of prayer for all peoples,” and “the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Almighty as the waters cover the seas.”

Abraham is the first one called a “Hebrew” in the Bible. The word means “one who had crossed over.” He had left his homeland of Babylon, his family, and his countrymen, following the leading of God to the promised Land. He becomes a “great nation” but he is specifically chosen because he will teach “his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Almighty by doing justice and righteousness.” Abraham pioneers a Way of faith, walking in a personal relationship with God that is applicable not only to his children, but to his larger household who were not his physical offspring. He provides a model for all humanity to follow.

The prophetic Plan revealed in the Hebrew Bible is that “all nations” will someday be drawn to the One Creator God of the Bible and experience an era of peace, prosperity, justice, and righteousness. This messianic hope, as laid out by the Prophets, is the only hope of humankind.

The Way of the Creator is revealed by a careful historical reading of the Torah, the Prophets, and the Psalms, as inaugurated by the great prophet Moses, and proclaimed by the Hebrew Prophets to all nations. Any human being who responds to that Biblical message of ethical Monotheism, and seeks to apply the teachings of the Bible to his or her life, can rightly become part of the greater Hebrew Faith. This individual act of faith and commitment transcends any particular creed, council, denomination, tradition, or human organization. No intercessors or mediators are required. We invite all who are so moved to join us on these ancient paths, upholding the Hebrew faith as it is revealed in the Bible, and thereby beginning on this exciting “road less traveled.”

The principle texts upon which these affirmations are based are: Jonah 1:9; Isaiah 43:10-11; Isaiah 45:22; Isaiah 56:7; Isaiah 11:9; Genesis 14:13; Genesis 12:1-3; Micah 4:1-5:4; Isaiah 59:16-22: Jeremiah 6:16
