In the eighth class in his series on the Ten Words, Ross takes a close look at Word Two according to the Masoretic breaks in the texts in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5. This “word” is typically translated as, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.” What is the meaning of this? It is clearly a prohibition that has to do with God’s name, but what does it mean to “take the name,” and what is implied by, “in vain?” Ross unpacks the words withing Word Two in this informative class.
