In this class, Ross shares again his teaching, “The Dreams of the Fathers,” with a larger audience. The lecture was originally given at a United Israel World Union Conference. The class weaves together points from Hertzl’s “Der Judenstaat” with passages from the Hebrew Bible to present a case for the ultimate return of Israel. Ross begins the lecture with a quote from the Israeli Declaration of Independence. There it says that the State of Israel will be “open to Jewish Immigration AND to the ingathering of the exiles.” It is this latter phrase that the talk focuses on. What precisely is meant by the ingathering of the exiles? Ross then proposes that the full realization of these words finds support in an ancient dream that goes back to an encounter that the patriarch Jacob has with the God of his fathers.
