In this week’s class, Ross covers Genesis 31:3-32:2. It relates the return of Jacob to the land of Israel after having been away for 20 years. Informed by God that it is time to return to the land of his fathers and of his kindred, Jacob convinces his women that it is time to go. Ross works carefully through the texts. He shows that from Genesis 28:10-32:2 we have a story of Jacob outside of the land of promise. He also points out that Jacob is met by messengers in both his coming and going from the land. Ross suggests that the events in the life of the patriarch point beyond the man Jacob and possibly hint at a prophesied return of Jacob’s descendants. What can learn about the future return of Jacob to the land, from these stories in Genesis? Watch or listen to learn.
