As 1980 drew to a close, David Horowitz received a telegram from Eryk Spektor, General Chairman of the Jabotinsky Centennial Dinner, scheduled for November 11th at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. The gala affair was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Zeev Jabotinsky. Horowitz learned that he was to be a recipient of the prestigious Jabotinsky Centennial Award Metal and Citation.
Vladimir (Zeev) Jabotinsky (1880-1940) is a towering figure in the history of Zionism. He was a Zionist activist, orator, and writer who founded both the Betar Movement (a Revisionist Zionist youth movement), and the Jewish Legion of the British army during World War I. Fascinated by Zionist leader, Theodor Herzl, Jabotinsky was elected as a delegate to the 6th Zionist Congress.
