In this teaching, Ross covers material found in Genesis 42:18-43:13. In this reading from the ancient triennial Torah cycle, Joseph sets forth a testing of his brothers. According to the narrative, the transition of Joseph from lord of the dreams to lord of the land is evident. All who desire life, must go to Joseph. After accusing the brothers of spying out the land, they reveal sorrow for the events that sent Joseph to Egypt. What they fail to realize is that Joseph understands them. For the first time, the details of that fateful day are made known to Joseph. Throughout the class, Ross shows that history and prophecy are conveyed in the narrative. Furthermore, the test that Joseph puts his brothers through is to determine whether or not they can rectify their actions and redeem themselves when it comes to the other son of Rachel.
