In this class Ross covers Genesis 35:9-36:43. The reading contains another appearance of God to the prodigal patriarch, another account of the name change for Jacob, the death of his beloved Rachel & of Isaac and an account of Esau’s line. Ross concentrates this study on the story of Rachel’s death and of the birth of Jacob’s last son Benjamin. He then follows the lead of some of the texts into the world of the Hebrew prophets and by doing so reveals that Matthew misquotes Micah. Is Bethlehem Ephratah a place or a family line? And what does Jeremiah mean when he relates that Rachel is weeping for her sons?
