During his career, David Horowitz met or interviewed many Hollywood celebrities and entertainers. He formed lasting relationships with a few, including Shirley MacLaine and Sammy Davis Jr. On occasion, he would arrange celebrity visits to the United Nations when an actor or actress was visiting New York.
On one such occasion, he invited actress Gloria Swanson to visit the UN and speak to a group of fellow journalists.
Gloria Swanson was an American actress and producer best known for her role as Norma Desmond, a reclusive silent film star, in the critically acclaimed 1950 film “Sunset Boulevard.” In a little-known fact, Ms. Swanson was honored with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; one for motion pictures, and another for television.
Gloria Swanson is seen here addressing the UN journalists group while an amused David Horowitz is seated to her left.
